Even More Cheerful: Snack!
I'm sure you're still on the edge of your seat from our last riveting entry, so I'll just jump right in and continue with our daily routine following breakfast.
Things tend to go three different ways at this point: if I am walking to work, I am out the door by 8 or so for a quick walk across Miramar. The little shopping area around the corner from our house is usually populated with commuters waiting for a bus into town, but I keep going with the college kids (here they call high school 'college', and what follows is 'university') towards the airport before heading north for work.
Otherwise, if I am getting a ride or taking the car myself, I have an extra few minutes to play before we leave: it's literally only a 4-minute drive, and usually we take the back way through the neighborhoods rather than by the airport roundabout. Josie is still just as determined to get into her car-seat by herself as she was before we left, and just as easily distracted by anything.

After dropping me off the girls usually go to a playground, the library, Spray or a friend's house for a play-date. On Mondays Brandie has also been going to Chris's favorite store in Wellington, Moore Wilson. It's roughly the equivalent of a Costco or Sam's Club in the US, but with more variety and combined with a restaurant supply. Sophie & Josie love the toy section upstairs, where apparently there's some anxiety over whether the demo game station will be free to play on.
Sometime around 10:30 or 11, the girls might go for a fluffy and a latte (depending on whether Mom's made one with il Magnifico at home.) These treats have already been covered in a post, but it's probably worth noting that the girls think the marshmallows that accompany the fluffy are actually the fluffy, and the foamy treat that accompanies them is just a vehicle for whatever cocoa powder or 'hundreds and thousands' (sprinkles) get set on top. In any case, it's still fun and marshmallows are arguably fluffy.
If at home by this time, the girls will also have carrot sticks (carrots even taste better here, they're sweeter somehow and the girls love them) with hummus or some fruit. Depending how active the morning has been snack sometimes just rolls right into lunch, which we'll save for another day (I know, the excitement just builds every time I do this, doesn't it? 'What will they eat tomorrow? Who knew their adventures in New Zealand would be so fascinating?')
