Doctor Visit

Well the checkup went great: Sophie is 13 lbs 14 oz, 25 inches long, and I forget the head measurement. The doctor says we can start introducing solid foods before her next visit if we want, there seems to be quite a strategy to it all. Unfortunately she says the whole "sleeping through the night" solid food thing is just an old wives' tale, but I'm still willing to give it a try!

We also found out yesterday that Sophie had turned over from her back onto her tummy last week at daycare! What a kick in the pants for it to have happened and not know about it. That's exactly the kind of thing we were afraid of missing out on with daycare. We still haven't witnessed it ourselves though, so it'll be great when it does happen.

Sophie also got four shots today, which made mom cry! Drop her a line to help her out if you can, thanks!

Jacob, you must be the most compassionate husband I've ever met. Of course I'm not partial. LOVE the picture of you and Umma Gumma in the front pack. You look very happy and healthy. OK, I have sang the song Alloutte to myself quite a few times and still can't figure out where Umma Gumma comes from. Please explaine. Love, "the medaling Mother-in Law

Great job on the doctor visit and post - she's seems to being growing perfectly and cuter and cuter each day by your posted photos! I feel for Brandie (I, too, cried more than the baby on our first 4 shots). Surprisingly, it gets better, Hannah loves to go to the doctors now (I think it's because all the nurses' go nuts over her), and she really doesn't mind the shots. Mom, on the other hand, still cringes.

As babies grow up, I can't help but remembering something my mom used to say, "You spend the first 18 months pushing them to talk and walk . . . then the next 18 years telling them to sit down and shut up"

Enjoy each day with your baby girl - it's just keeps getting better and better!

We watched 'Finding Neverland' the other night, there's a great quote in there where J.M. Barrie says children "should never be sent to bed... they always wake up a day older." I don't know if that's something he really said, but it certainly made sense to us (at this point anyway!)

I don't really remember where the Umma Gumma nickname comes from - it just sprung into my head looking at her one day soon after she was born. I sing it to her now, subbing in the name for Allouette, but the origin's apparently lost in the haze of sleep deprivation ;)
