What a Wonderful Weekend

| | Comments (0)
We had a great weekend full of friends and family.  The type of weekend we used to dream about.  Saturday we were ultra domestic and spent our morning cleaning and used our afternoon to bake cookies, roast garlic, clean our coffee pot (have you heard enough about our coffee pot yet?!) and made pasties for our friends Danny and Trina.  Then we used the evening getting to know our Wii.  We love it!  We bowled, we golfed and we did a little "boxing" if you can call it that.  Now I understand why they call him "Mr. Cheapshot".

The next morning we brewed a big pot of coffee for our friends Amy, Ilya and the girls play mate, Auden.  Then George and Sue stopped by.  There is something so satisfying about having company over on a Sunday morning.

Uncle Jesse Comes to New York

My brother flew out for a week long visit and boy it was a great one. I just dropped him off at the airport this afternoon and I miss him so much already.

We started off by getting a babysitter the first night and heading to our favorite restaurant in Endicott, Lampy's. We LOVE the food there and I decided it would be a great time to break the news of baby #3 to my brother (It was a joke!!). He almost choked on his food. Ah, how I miss my practical jokes on my family. After a wonderful dinner and great conversation (Jake and I had no idea what to do with ourselves without the two girls to care for) we headed into the week. Jake had to work all week so Jesse got to see the ins and outs of my day. I started calling him my manny right away. He is a natural with the girls and helped me non stop. Sophie had a Dermatologist appointment and Jesse came with me to watch Josie. Apparently no one could pass them up in the waiting room and one nurse was commenting how cute Josie was and asked if she was Jesse's. He said "No, I'm the Uncle." To which the nurse replied "Ohhhh, even better!" I don't think she was his type but he's thanked Josie for trying to get him a date. ;)

As with any visit with my family this one was fairly food focused. We took Jesse to Joey's, Lost Dog, Los Tapatios, Wegman's and Apple Hills. He enjoyed almost all of them. I think it's really hard for someone who has had authentic mexican food to enjoy the bastardized east coast version. And don't think we only ate out. Oh no, we had to introduce Jesse to Spiedies. It's so funny because I explain them as kabobs without any vegetables and anyone from this area goes into an almost religious explanation of them, the marinating process, how they were created here, the festival in their name. He enjoyed them and is thinking of coming out for the Spiedie fest this summer.

Of course Jesse was constantly fielding requests from Sophie who thought he was the best playmate ever. They scared each other, sang, raced around the room and watched Sophie's favorite movie Cars. Every morning she woke up with the question "Where's Uncle Jesse?". When she discovered he was sleeping she would ask if she could go wake him up with "a kissy and a tickle".

Overall it was the best visit I can remember having with my brother. We vowed not to let it go as long between visits this next time and promised that no matter where we land, he'll always have a room at our house.

We had our first (and I'm sure not the last) experience with "Foreign Object in the Poop" this past weekend!

First, let me start by saying that Hannah is terrible for putting things in her mouth!!! They say all kids do it, but this is getting ridiculous! From ties on sweatpants to hair and eyeglasses... to ANYTHING at all she finds or can crawl to... from hand to mouth!!! I'm actually thinking about mittens for her teeny little hands!!!!!

Saturday, after lunch of green beans and fruit cup, the odor hits me ... stinky diaper!! I take Hannah up to the changing table for a fresh diaper. As I look down, I notice a florescent green color in the large pile of stuff and I think, "Hmmmm, the books all say poop can change colors drastically based on their intake." But this looks different... too bright and shiny. I grab a wet one and touch it... and lo and behold... it's a LITE BRITE peg!!!!

I called my sister (she's also my sitter) and ask her about it... she's upset and apologetic! Hannah must have found it somewhere on her floor and ate it. Now mind you, my sister has the cleanest house I've ever seen, so I know it was just bad luck.

I was a little worried that she might have eaten more, so I called the Pediatrician as a precaution. The pediatrician told me not to worry... she's seen children with many more items come out (coins, pins, nails and even a dentists drill bit). Just to keep an eye on her and call back if I was concerned.

Needless to say, all is fine and this is (I'm sure) the first of many great stories for the baby book! We'll be extra diligent in vacuuming and cleaning up, as will my sister, but if there's something little to be found and eaten, Hannah will find it! I don't know how long this hand-to-mouth thing lasts, but hopefully she passes this stage soon!!!!!

Brandie has been asking me to write something for the Tiny e website but I have had a bit of writers block. I have been searching for my inspiration and passion in order to write a piece that would live up to Brandie and Jake's witty writing style. I really want to make a valuable contribution to the Tiny e site. Now, I think I've got it!!!

Let me introduce myself first--- I swear I really do know Brandie and Jake and am not just some random person surfing the net looking for places to post my story!

Brandie and I met our freshman year of college at Idaho State University. We got along so well that she ended up moving into my dorm room after my previous roommate moved out. So, that is how we first met and we have kept in-touch ever since. I still live in Idaho and work at Boise State University. My job is to work with students on finding the career that fits their interests, skills, and values. "What would you really like to do?" Yes, I am that person at the university.

I could go on all day about my career, because believe me I have some hilarious stories about the students I meet! I would rather tell you that I got engaged last week and am planning on getting married this summer!!

My boyfriend (Kelly), my sister, her husband, Kelly's friend and his wife, and I all went on a cruise to Mexico March 13-20 and on the ship is where he proposed. I am still getting over the fact that almost everyone knew but me. I had absolutely no idea, I was extremely surprised and even more surprised when he pulled out a ring. On the ship there are two formal nights where you dress in your best formal wear and have dinner. They take all these cheesy highschool dance pictures and make you feel like your at the prom all over again. Before dinner Kelly and I met my sister and husband and his friend and wife at the Viking Crown Lounge. The Viking Crown was located on the top of the ship (floor 10) and had huge windows that over looked the ocean. We sat and had drinks, chatted, and stared out the window at the ocean. Or I guess I should say I sat and chatted, had drinks and stared out the window at the ocean. Everyone else knew what was about to happen and was probably thinking more about the upcoming proposal than my lively conversation. My sister made a toast and asked if anyone else had something to say. That is when Kelly sprang into action! He said he had something to say to me and pulled out a poem he had written and began reading it to me. I don't think that there are very many moments in life where you can actually pinpoint when your life changed. When he started reading the poem I had that moment, I knew my entire life was about to change. The rest is actually a blur of emotions.

I love Kelly so much and am so excited to be with him forever! He is my everything and I can't wait to marry him and start our family and go through life together.
Through this entire story I have refrained from adding song lyrics. I can no longer hold myself back--I think in song lyrics.

"If I could save time in a bottle, The first thing that I'd like to do
Is to save every day till eternity passes away, Just to spend them with you"
You gotta love Jim Croce!!

Grammy is Brandie's Mom, me. Also the proud Grandmother of one beautifil baby girl, little Sophia. As my daughter knows this is only the fourth time I've ever even been on a computer. Just getting into the web sight is such a pleasure for me as I am too far away to call every day. Even though we do speak often.. Everyone must think I was born in the dark ages and well I was. ha ha. It is simply amazing to be able to keep up on the every day news of Jake, Brandie, and my little Sophie. So at this point I am thrilled. I live in Coos Bay, Oregon. Thanks to everyone who is patient enough to listen to me. Barbara
