Photos
For many years we happily relied on a Canon Digital Elph for our photographic needs, mostly because of the convenience of its size (with two in diapers, we weren't likely to have the extra hand to carry anything more). The biggest limitation we found was being unable to take low-light photos (e.g. birthday parties with small numbers of candles on the cake) without using a flash, which usually overexposes the foreground and leaves the background too dark.
After a lot of research (and a little breathing room once the girls got older), we decided to buy a Canon 450D (Digital Rebel XSi) with a 50mm 1.4f lens. We mostly rely on the Av (Aperture Priority) setting, which with a low f-stop value gives the shallow depth-of-field and flash-free low-light photos we like a lot. We also use Aperture on the iMac to download and do any balancing or color-correction required (think of it like developing your film, but on the computer.)

Our photos currently reside in two places, DAlbum and SmugMug. Prior to this year we used a shareware program called DAlbum, hosted locally on our site: it was very nice and secure (not to mention free!) but had a tendency to freeze up which made viewing photos frustrating. We recently switched to SmugMug, a more commercial and stable photo-sharing service like Flickr or Picasa. It allows us to embed nice slideshows and larger images on our blog as well as order prints very easily. If there are any galleries from our old albums that you'd like moved over to SmugMug to order prints from just send me a mail and I'll migrate it over!
