November 2005 Archives
Today Sophie took her first independent steps. Jake and I were sitting across from each other and convinced her to walk back and forth between us. She was very proud of herself and after a couple rounds she decided to just stand and clap for herself.
Maybe she'll be full on walking in time for her First Birthday!
Saturday we were lucky enough to attend their beautiful wedding here in town. We had a fantastic time, thanks for inviting us!
It could have been over something worse, like candy, or not getting a pony for her birthday, but Sophie decided to perform her first throw down for her toothbrush.
Since she now has three teeth we got her a "big girl" toothbrush that she can hold herself. She brushes her teeth at night and in the morning. Today, she was in the bathroom trying to see her toothbrush on top of the counter so I gave it to her thinking it is probably good to keep her interested in brushing her teeth.
Unfortunately, she wants to brush her teeth, her ear, the floor, anything in sight. I was trying to coax it away from her but she kept whining. Finally she lost interest and dropped it on the floor so I picked it up. About a minute later realizing she no longer had her toothbrush, she bent herself in half throwing her upper body on to the floor. Then she started bashing her head against the carpet and screaming for her toothbrush. I was laughing hysterically but trying to hide it from her. Does she really love her toothbrush this much? Watch, soon she'll be sleeping with it.
We all survived. I'll just have to figure out a better way to get it away from her.
Sophie is celebrating her 11 month birthday as an east coaster and she really seems to be enjoying it.
On this coast, she has her cousins Jessica and Julia who are here to entertain her non stop. She really enjoys watching them and copying them and they pour on the attention so everyone is happy.
She's got a couple new tricks in her bag. She mimicks sounds like "thank you", "uh,oh" and "no,no". She also has learned (from me) how to point her finger at the dog and scold her. At least she is in charge, right? She loves lights being turned on and off and points at them all the time. Come to think of it, she points at pretty much everything.
Her favorite past time is talking to her Grammy on the phone. And when she isn't really talking to her, she will find anything that resembles a phone and pretend to talk to her. It really is very cute.
She has been standing unassisted and keeps teasing us with the walking thing. I am sure it will be sooner than we are ready for but it is great seeing her do things.
She loves looking at animals in books. She also insists on turning the pages by herself.
Lots of fun stuff this month. She continues to be a pleasure and an excitement.
