Happy Birthday Jacob!

It's Jake's 35th birthday today and we are happy to be celebrating it together. Someday we'll get the party tree but for now, he seems happy cozied up in his Hobbit Hole. Happy Birthday Honey!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It's a day early but we figure everyone (including us) will be too busy visiting with family & friends and enjoying their turkey to be surfing the internet tomorrow. Safe travels to everyone who is leaving home, enjoy everything you have to be thankful for (we have lots in these two!) and have a great holiday!

Happy Birthday Michele!

Our friend Michele (seen here in the center preparing for her solo, two over from a slack-jawed Mr. Fleischer) celebrates her birthday today. As that expertly-drawn poster used to say, Way to go, Oak(es)!

Lost Items

No, I am not talking about our camera (which still hasn't shown up) but rather the many items everyday that are lost in our house.  Some are small, binkies or maybe a sippy cup.  While others that "we" (and by we I mean Josie) have lost have a heftier price both monetarily and functionally.

Our latest items that have been lost are my car keys.  These were lost over a month ago and I finally gave up hope that they would turn up some day as I sifted through another bin of toys.  So, you can't just replace the key you have to replace the transmitter (which was also lost) and then you have to take the car in to get all of the keys reprogrammed.  $140.  That doesn't include getting my house keys re made or the sentimental value of the little picture keychain I had of Sophie on there.  In addition to the key reprogramming we decided to invest in a key hook that will go by the front door. Hopefully that will keep little hands from playing with them.

Also lost, our Tivo remote.  So, not as much of a big deal but still a total pain.  The unfortunate thing is that Josie likes to throw things in the trash.  So when we couldn't find the remote Jake went dumpster diving to see if the Tivo remote had made it's way into the girls diaper pail.  Yuck!

I'm going to have to come up with a suspension system of some sort in order to get everything of importance out of reach.

Update: The day after getting our new set of keys from our Honda dealer Jake found the missing set in his car.  Ugh.  Then, feeling determined to find the Tivo remote, we did a complete search of the house one room at a time and the remote showed up in the drawer of my desk in our bedroom.

So the score is Josie: 1, Mom: Crazy

What a Wonderful Weekend

We had a great weekend full of friends and family.  The type of weekend we used to dream about.  Saturday we were ultra domestic and spent our morning cleaning and used our afternoon to bake cookies, roast garlic, clean our coffee pot (have you heard enough about our coffee pot yet?!) and made pasties for our friends Danny and Trina.  Then we used the evening getting to know our Wii.  We love it!  We bowled, we golfed and we did a little "boxing" if you can call it that.  Now I understand why they call him "Mr. Cheapshot".

The next morning we brewed a big pot of coffee for our friends Amy, Ilya and the girls play mate, Auden.  Then George and Sue stopped by.  There is something so satisfying about having company over on a Sunday morning.

Josie: 18 Months

A couple days late on this one but Josephine recently hit the year and a half mark!  She is trying as best she can to keep up with everything her sister does.  Jumping on the couch, jumping on the bed (dumpy dumpy as she calls it), coloring, using the potty and especially playing in her new kitchen from Uncle Jesse and Uncle Dan.

I don't think she knows how to walk, she just runs everywhere!  Some days she does really well at staying upright but there are periods of time that I am concerned she will never walk more than 1 foot without falling down.  Jake has started calling her Gerald Ford!

Some of her favorites currently include watching Jo Jo's Circus, playing "dumpy dumpy" on the bed, climbing anything that is near a light switch in order to turn the light on and off, actually, she climbs pretty much anything she can get to.  She loves taking Eulie to the park and throwing the ball for her.  She definitely enjoys her Halloween candy that she gets after dinner.  And of course, some things never change, she shouts anytime she sees a food you are preparing for her.  It just can't get there fast enough!  She also shouts if her sister has something that she doesn't.

She recently went to her 18 month appt where she passed with flying colors.  We were afraid she was allergic to peanuts but the Dr. said that wasn't the case. (hooray!)  She is in the 70th percentile for weight, 75th for height and 90th for head size (lots of brains!).  She was also the lucky recipient of two shots.  We talked about it a bit before we got there but hey, she's 18 months, there's no way she was totally prepared.  She was pretty upset when she got the shots and after it was over and I could pick her up she started crying "Shee Shee!  Shee Shee!" which is her name for Sophie.  I totally teared up.  Sophie didn't come with us to her visit and it just broke my heart to hear Josie calling out for her in a moment of pain.  She calmed down after a lollipop but when we got in the car and Josie turned to face Sophie's empty car seat, she started right back with the "Shee Shee!" cry.  It was really sweet and sad at the same time.

She talks up a storm.  No way to list everything she says so here are some of our favorites and outtakes.
  • Shee Shee = Sophie
  • Me Dash = This was said as she ran around the table as fast as she could. (Jake let her watch Incredibles)
  • No!
  • Yay = Yes
  • Show = request made every time we get in the car
  • Woowy = request to watch Toy Story
  • Neigh = request to watch Toy Story 2 which has a horse in it
  • Cheep = Chip
  • Hummy = Hummus
  • Cacka = Cracker
  • garble garble garble A-Choo = She tells these random stories about various things that sneeze
  • Dumpy dumpy dumpy = jumpy jumpy jumpy (as she jumps on the bed)

Overall, a fun time with our girls.  They are really starting to interact and play with each other much more.  And as you can tell from the story above, it isn't just us who benefit from them playing together so much.

It's been a while since we posted any videos, but this one was too good to miss: some pre-bed-time hilarity involving winter hats, laundry baskets, head-banging and laughing. Click on the picture above to see.
